  • Proof of Indian origin — old Indian passport, parents' Indian passports or OCI
  • Indian passport surrender / renunciation certificate (for former Indian citizens)
  • Proof of UK address
  • Photograph and signature to OCI specification
  • For minors: birth certificate and both parents' documents

Common questions

Do I need to surrender my Indian passport first?

Yes. Former Indian citizens who have acquired British nationality must surrender their Indian passport and obtain a surrender/renunciation certificate before or alongside the OCI application. We can guide you through this.

How long does an OCI take?

Processing times vary and are set by the Indian authorities. Fresh OCI applications commonly take several weeks.

Is the OCI fee included?

No. Government and VFS fees are paid separately. We will confirm the current amount for your application.
